# Filter required

Every PermitCore error is [RFC 9457](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9457)
`application/problem+json`. **Branch on `type` (a stable URI)**, not on `title`
or `detail` (human-readable, may change).

## When it occurs

A rollup/aggregation request was submitted without any of the required narrowing filters, which would force a full-dataset scan. The response `detail` lists the acceptable filters.

## How to fix

Add at least one of the listed filters (e.g. `jurisdiction`, `state`, `metro_cbsa`, date range) and resubmit.

**Not retryable** — fix the request before resubmitting; retrying unchanged returns the same error.
